How it began

About a year ago I noticed a little discolouration on my eye.  At first I thought it was a dry spot as my eyelids have always been sensitive so I tried different eye creams and moisturizers but it wouldn’t budge so I went to my local GP to see what it was. One quick look and she said Xanthelasma. I asked what I can do about it and she wrote it down for me and said “look it up on the internet.”

Needless to say I wasn’t very pleased with this answer so I went to a dermatologist who confirmed it. She said they are cholesterol deposits in my eye that actually have nothing to do with the cholesterol levels in my body. I asked if there was a cream or something that would get rid of it and she said NO, and somewhat offhandedly said that I could go see a plastic surgeon. She wasn’t exactly the most helpful or sympathetic doctor I’ve ever met.

I got home, pulled out the little piece of paper that the GP wrote down for me and started searching. The pictures horrified me because these bad boys GROW and SPREAD and it was anything but pretty.

What’s worse, it seemed the cure options were quite limited. Going on plastic surgeons sites gave me little hope as even they advised that it often reoccurs and there wasn’t even a proper treatment for it. Lasers or surgery leave scars, horrid pics showed stitches and of course, the prices were very high and not really something I can afford, especially if it reoccurs.

Was I destined to have my eyes covers in what looked like skin tags or scars or skin tags on top of scars??

I also found that many others used TCA successfully but I’m really not keen on putting ACID ON MY EYELIDS. I’m clumsy on a good day and my eyesight is rather important to me. My hats off to the brave souls who have used this option and were happy with the results although most said that it did reoccur.

I decided to look up homeopathic remedies instead and found this much easier to swallow.

If you are reading this, I’m sure you have also been through the above and are now looking for answers.

The top home remedies that kept coming up over and over are;

Garlic

Castor Oil

Banana Peels

There are several more but these are the one’s I tried in the past year but not before reading numerous testimonials, mostly from this site here: https://dreamama.wordpress.com/tag/xanthelasma/

The blog was super helpful mostly because of the hundreds of comments from fellow sufferers but the blog is several years old now and I thought I’d make a new one using my experience.

Before I do I need to say that I am by no means a medical expert, not in traditional/western medicine or homeopathic remedies, I’m just a regular person sharing my experience and pics in the hope that it might help others.
